Maria's breast cancer story on Coronation Street

Macmillan cancer support are working with Coronation Street on Maria Connor's breast cancer scare storyline.

Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria Connor, tweeted:

Characters have been fagging it or drinking themselves into a stupor for years without the slightest ill effect. Now the programme wants kudos for helping women with breast cancer, despite covering this subject less than 2 years ago. It makes me feel ill.

Would have been better to show cirrosis of the liver, considering the amount of time - lunchtimes and evenings they spend in the Rovers - what about diabetes or other heart problems stemming from constantly eating fry ups in Roys or kebabs in Divs.
