Coronation Street fans of the week - Jason and George in New York

It's time to meet another Corrie fan of the week.

Who are you and where are you from?

Jason and George from New York City, USA

How long have you been watching Corrie?
Steadily for about 2 years. We caught the show while on holiday in the UK in the autumn of 2012, got hooked, and have watched non-stop ever since on Hulu back in the States!

Who are your favourite female and male characters - and the reasons why?

Favourite Female:  Hard to choose, as there are so many wonderful female characters on Corrie that we love (Anna, Audrey, Deidre, Eileen, Liz, Rita, Sally). But, I’d have to say Carla. She’s strong, smart, brassy, funny, sexy, successful but also a compassionate, self-aware character. Alison King has been marvelous all year, effectively portraying Carla’s support for Roy in losing Hayley, coming to terms with Peter’s alcoholism and his affair and realizing Carla’s grief over her miscarriage and sending Rob down.

Favourite Male: Roy. A truly rich, complex character and characterization. He is written and acted with intellect and warmth, but also sadness and resignation. It’s great that Roy’s a bit out of step with everyone else on the Street, but is still such a valued part of the community. Following Hayley’s death, it’s been a pleasure to watch his relationships with Anna, Carla, and Fiz grow and deepen as he faces life on his own.

What's been some of your favourite Corrie storylines over the years?

While it was difficult and painful to watch, Hayley’s cancer storyline was incredibly well done and moving. The acting by Julie Hesmondhalgh and David Neilsen was superb. Tim and Sally’s romance has been great fun. They’re perfect together! The blossoming of Deidre (without Ken) has been a highlight this year also.

And what would your fantasy Corrie storyline be?

We’d like to see Leanne get her own business and a storyline that’s not all about Nick, Simon, Kal, etc. Perhaps she could run that old brewery we saw on the set tour? Jane Danson’s a great actress, who is underutilised, and it would be great to see another female titan of industry, so to speak, on the Street!

Have you any snippets or news about meeting any of the Corrie cast, or trips to the set, etc., that you'd like to share?

We visited the Coronation Street set tour in July 2014. It was amazing. Really gives you a sense of the layout of the street and where all the shops and homes are relative to one another. We met Jennie McAlpine (Fiz) and her dad while having dinner at Annie’s in Manchester last Christmas time. The food was great and they were both lovely and welcoming. That same trip, we sat next to Kym Marsh (Michelle), Antony Cotton (Sean) and Brooke Vincent (Sophie)’s table while at a bar at Canal Street. It looked like they were having a holiday do with some friends, so we let them to it. But a lot of fans did interrupt them to take selfies! They seemed cooperative if not best pleased.  Also spotted Charlie Condou (Marcus) having dinner with his parents (?) maybe at a Chinese restaurant on Princess Street. Seems like we were pretty lucky in randomly spotting Corrie stars while roaming about Manchester! Also saw a mysterious red anoraked woman out on the Salford Quays who we thought might be the ghost of Hayley, but was just a pensioner!

I was on the same Smiths/Morrissey tour as Jason and George back in July - if I'd have known they were Corrie fans I'd have told them about my "Oh Manchester, so much to answer for" blog!
